Cards Embossing Folders Simon Says Stamp

Stunning Results With Embossing Folders!

I’m back with more inspiration using 3D embossing folders, and today’s card is all about bold color, gorgeous texture, and a technique that really makes those embossed details stand out.

My project features the Alstroemeria Embossing Folder from Simon Says Stamp. This folder has such a beautiful floral design, and I love how much depth you can achieve simply by changing where and how you add your ink.

I started by running the embossing folder through my Intricut machine with white cardstock. For this technique, I worked on the debossed side of the panel, which gives you a completely different look from the traditional raised side.

I began adding color to the floral image with Bubblegum and Taffy inks, blending the two shades over the flowers to give them some variation. For the leaves and stem, I used Sprout ink.

Then comes the really fun part!

I took my Crocus ink pad, which is a gorgeous deep blue-purple, and ran the ink pad directly over the raised areas of the embossed panel. The ink catches the surface, fills in the background, and works its way into some of those little nooks and crannies around the floral design. That deep Crocus color against the bright pink flowers creates such a dramatic contrast!

To add another layer of texture, I splattered white paint over the entire background. Those tiny white flecks help break up the darker color and add even more interest to the embossed details.

Once everything was dry, I attached the panel to a side-folding card base and started working on a window layer for the front.

Using the Chunky Ovals die, I cut an oval window from white cardstock. I popped the window panel up with foam tape around the edges, allowing that vibrant embossed floral background to peek through. I really like how the crisp white frame gives the eye a place to rest while still letting the colorful Alstroemeria design be the star of the card.

For the sentiment, I used the Glow On EZ Strips. I trimmed the sentiment down into a thin strip and popped it up in the center of the window for a simple finishing touch that doesn’t compete with the background.

The finished card is bright, vibrant, and full of texture, and I love how dramatically the deep Crocus background transforms the embossed floral design. It’s such a fun way to get even more mileage out of your 3D embossing folders and experiment with using the debossed side of your designs.

Thanks so much for joining me today! I hope this inspires you to pull out your embossing folders, grab a few colorful inks, and see what happens when you add color in a completely different way.
