For today’s card, I combined three products from the release: the Dewpierce Butterfly Wafer Die, Creative Overlays, and the Wild & Free Flowers stamp set.

It’s been quite a while since I pulled out my alcohol inks, so this card felt like the perfect excuse to play with them again.

I started by creating backgrounds on Yupo paper using Cool Peri and Smudge alcohol inks.

For one panel, I moved the ink around with rubbing alcohol, and for the other, I used blending solution. An air blower helped push the inks across the surface, creating soft movement and beautiful blends of color.

The butterflies were die cut from white cardstock and ink blended with two different color families. One butterfly features bright pink shades from Trio 6, while the second uses the gorgeous periwinkle tones from Trio 33.

I finished each butterfly with a body die cut from black glitter cardstock for a little contrast and sparkle.

One of my favorite elements on this card is the Creative Overlay. The acetate overlay has a mixed-media feel with printed text and texture details, while still allowing the colorful background to show through.

To keep the adhesive hidden, I attached the butterflies and sentiment to the overlay first using foam squares. Then I placed adhesive behind those elements on the back of the acetate before attaching everything to the alcohol ink background.

The sentiment comes from the Wild & Free Flowers stamp set and was stamped in black ink before being cut out with the coordinating die.

I hope this card inspires you to pull out your alcohol inks and create some colorful backgrounds of your own!

This card is cool b/c it feels romantic and sort of gritty at once. It has neutral tones but then bright pops. I am normally not one for mixed media but I am trying to broaden my horizons. I always appreciate that you are such a leader. And thanks for the reminder to use alcohol inks.
