For today’s card, I combined three products from the release: the Dewpierce Butterfly Wafer Die, Creative Overlays, and the Wild & Free Flowers stamp set.

It’s been quite a while since I pulled out my alcohol inks, so this card felt like the perfect excuse to play with them again.
I started by creating backgrounds on Yupo paper using Cool Peri and Smudge alcohol inks.
For one panel, I moved the ink around with rubbing alcohol, and for the other, I used blending solution. An air blower helped push the inks across the surface, creating soft movement and beautiful blends of color.

The butterflies were die cut from white cardstock and ink blended with two different color families. One butterfly features bright pink shades from Trio 6, while the second uses the gorgeous periwinkle tones from Trio 33.
I finished each butterfly with a body die cut from black glitter cardstock for a little contrast and sparkle.

One of my favorite elements on this card is the Creative Overlay. The acetate overlay has a mixed-media feel with printed text and texture details, while still allowing the colorful background to show through.
To keep the adhesive hidden, I attached the butterflies and sentiment to the overlay first using foam squares. Then I placed adhesive behind those elements on the back of the acetate before attaching everything to the alcohol ink background.

The sentiment comes from the Wild & Free Flowers stamp set and was stamped in black ink before being cut out with the coordinating die.
I hope this card inspires you to pull out your alcohol inks and create some colorful backgrounds of your own!

What a beautiful card, Mindy! Those bright colors just pop on this background!
Ooo I LOVE the vintage background with the BRIGHT butterflies! GORGEOUS!
Beautiful card! The butterflies really pop against that cool background! Love it!
Absolutely beautiful, love the pops of color.
Great reminder to use Alochol inks. And your use of the overlay….yummy
I love how you use black and white to great effect. Lovely!
Beautiful card, I love it. I really enjoyed seeing how you made this card. I haven’t branched out to alcohol inks yet, but sounds like fun to play around with. Thank you for inspiring me today.
LOVE those butterflies on that darker background – they really pop!
WOW !!! Mindy, your card is STUNNING, it’s like if Grunge & Elegance had a baby. I’m so happy you filmed a video of your process. Having never using the overlays because quite frankly I wasn’t quite sure how to go about it, you’ve now inspired me to use them and they worked so beautifully with your Alcohol Inked background, Thanks for the reminder to get mine out and to use them, mine live in a drawer so out of sight out of mind, you’ve now inspired me to get them out for a little play time. The overlay transparency was be perfect backdrop for your beautiful & colorful Butterflies & the new Dewpierce Butterfly is a great new staple die. Your card proves that creating a spectacular card need not take hours to achieve, but it looks like it did.
Your card is absolutely stunning. I mean WOW, can’t stop looking at it. I am in love with how you incorporated the overlay with the delicate butterflies. It is “Gritty Glamour” at it’s best. Thanks for creating and sharing.
Wonderful Butterflies & background.
Beautiful card Mindy! 🩷🌸🩷
Ooh! Suddenly I have an insatiable urge to pull out my alcohol inks. The subtle look you achieved with yours provides the perfect backdrop for those utterly gorgeous butterflies. Now… where did I put my Yupo?
I love your butterflies!
What a great way to use that overlay with the bold butterflies.
Very clever way of adhering the acetate to the card in a way that would be hidden. You are so smart!! I love the black and white background paired with two bright colors. So very elegant!
Love these colorful butterflies on the b&w background! Awesome design!
Those butterflies are stunning! I also wish those transparencies were background stamps!! That would be so cool!
Love how you made your background monochromatic and used the bright pop of color with the butterflies. Stunning!
This card is cool b/c it feels romantic and sort of gritty at once. It has neutral tones but then bright pops. I am normally not one for mixed media but I am trying to broaden my horizons. I always appreciate that you are such a leader. And thanks for the reminder to use alcohol inks.

I like that you shaded the sparkler part of the wing tips so the lines show up a little bit more. Tasteful and pretty.
Awesome card; really love the contrast of the vibrant butterflies against the black design of the background.
Beautiful colorful butterflies against that black & white background!
Thanks for sharing this because I have these overlays and wasn’t quite sure how to adhere them. Seeing this card definitely makes you think “How did you do this”. The ink blending on butterfly’s pops and adds that pop of color!
