VIDEO
I am sharing this technique in a video that you can view down below or HERE on my Youtube channel.
I’ll be using the Splendid Snowflakes Embossing Folder for this technique today.
I’ve done this technique before on a card shared HERE but today I decided to add a little twist to it.
I quickly added color to a piece of White cardstock using my blending brushes. Then ran this through my Intri-cut machine with the Splendid Snowflakes Embossing Folder. The setting I used is putting the top dial to 3D Embossing Folder and the bottom dial to -4. Then I only used the Platform and the embossing folder.

I have the debossed side face up and ran dark shades of blues and purples over the background. Typically you see this done with Black but I wanted something a little more wintery.
I also added flicks of White with my White Acrylic Spray and lightly spritzed it with Faded Jeans Distress Spritz.

I have the Heartfelt Snowflake die cut from a glitter cardstock as a focal point and added a small sentiment from the Winter Collection.

So unique and so fun to do! I hope you give it a try!

Beautiful and so wonderful to see the blackout technique used with blues! I’m hoping to try it soon.
A beautiful wintry Christmas card, Mindy! I love this technique & the use of blue instead of black.
All 3 of your cards are delightful…but I think I love those adorable snowmen the most. Just so stinkin cheerful. Thank you for sharing!
Don’t second guess yourself. This snowflake card is stunning!
Beautiful snowflakes and color combo on your card! Love it! Great technique!
Love the technique and the results! Can’t wait to try it!
This card is so beautiful!
I love how you did this technique in blue and the glittery snowflake is so beautiful on top! Gorgeous card!
Lovely card! The snowflakes are so pretty.
Interesting idea to ink blend before embossing. I hadn’t seen this technique of “black out” before, but I’d like to try it. (As you mentioned, I would practice first or I’d probably pick the wrong side of the embossing folder!). I love the result. I do agree with you that the glitter snowflake gets a bit lost, but it’s still a beautiful card. Thank you for the video explaining your process.
What a fantastic wintery & snowy look – love this! Thanks for the inspiration!
The black out technique is fantastic.
Love your take on blackout technique. I think the card is lovely with your color choices.
Mindy, as usual, beautiful card and you make the technique look so easy! I do have a question, please. When you sprayed the Distress Sprit over your card, did the “pearl” effect run off on your fingers?
I have watched Tim’s tutorial on the Spritz a few times now, and I don’t know what I may not be doing correctly. No matter the substrate, no matter if I heat set – I still get the pearl when I gently rub my finger across. Have you noticed that? Thank you for sharing! 🙂
If I rub really really hard, a little bit of shimmer will come off but other then that it stays put
Fun twist on this technique! Endless possibilities!
I love this wintery card. I never tried this technique, but definitely will give it a try. Thanks for inspiring me.
Beautiful card! The sparkling diecut snowflake is the perfect embellishment.
I absolutely love this card and I can’t wait to try this technique!
