Hello friends!

I totally forgot that I created this birthday card earlier this year, and when I came across it again, I knew I had to share it! You really can’t go wrong with a birthday shaker card—especially when you add a rainbow of color and plenty of sparkle.

This design is bright, playful, and perfect for celebrating just about anyone. Plus, that lavender heart shaker mix adds such a fun little surprise when you give the card a shake!

I started with a piece of white cardstock cut to 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ and used the Square Shaker Die to cut a window from the center.

On the back of the panel, I attached a piece of acetate using double-sided tape. Then I added foam strips around the square opening to create the shaker well.

For the shaker bits, I used a Lavender Heart Shaker Mix. I love the pop of purple against all of the white, and it works so well with the rainbow colors I added later.

Once the shaker mix was inside, I removed the backing from the foam strips and attached the panel to a white A2 card front. Instant shaker fun!

For the focal point, I stamped the Happy outline and candles from Birthday Palooza onto another piece of white cardstock using black ink.

This is where I brought in all the color! I used alcohol markers to color the letters in “happy” and the candles in a fun rainbow assortment. Birthday cards are the perfect excuse to pull out a bunch of colors and just have fun with them.

After coloring everything, I used the coordinating dies to cut out the images.

I attached the candle border along the bottom of the card and placed the colorful “happy” right in the center of the shaker window. I love how the crisp black outlines stand out against the white background while all of that rainbow color keeps the design feeling cheerful.

To complete the greeting, I stamped a smaller sentiment onto black cardstock using white pigment ink and heat embossed it with white embossing powder.

I trimmed the sentiment down with a small paper trimmer and attached it underneath the word “happy” using black foam squares.

The little strip of black cardstock was just what the card needed. It ties in with the black outlines of the stamped images and gives the sentiment a little extra contrast against the colorful shaker background.

I’m glad I rediscovered this one because it’s such a happy design. Between the rainbow coloring, lavender hearts, candles, and interactive shaker element, there’s definitely plenty to celebrate.
