Watercoloring with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers

Welcome everyone! I dusted off my Zig markers and started putting them to work. If you follow me on social media you know I love my copics. Although they are amazing, I have been loving some of the other mediums as well and I am finally taking the plunge to share with you. Off screen, I’ve been playing with them. So I’ll be sharing little tips along the way.
The inspiration for this card came from Debby Hughes. She used watercolors on hers but I thought Zigs would be a nice easy way for me to start out.
I’m going to use the Center Cut Flowers stamp set from Simon Says Stamp Fluttering By release. This is a 6×6 red rubber stamp where the center pops out and that is the piece I’ll be using today.
I’m going to start with a piece of Tim Holtz Watercolor Cardstock – the smooth side- and stamp the floral image onto the cardstock with Simon Says Stamp Clear Ink. Be sure to prep your cardstock first with an antic static powder tool!
Next, I’ll heat emboss with white embossing powder and let cool for a moment.
I’m keeping this very simple and will only be using one color for my actual flower images which is Light Carmine. I start out by brushing some color onto a petal starting closest to the center. Then, I take a small paintbrush, dab it in some water, lightly dab the excess off on a paper towel and drag the color out towards the edge of the petal. Depending how much water you add to the petal will determine how much of a highlight you will have towards the outer end of the petal.
I have found that I like using a paintbrush for this versus a waterbrush pen because I feel I have more control. That is just my own personal choice. I’ll continue coloring this way throughout the card doing small sections at a time.
For the leaves, I tried adding some blue with the green just to change things up a little.
For the outer edge of my card, I’m taking the Light Blue and adding color around the edge and pulling that color out with the brush as well.
Once everything was colored and dried, I diecut this piece out from the Wonky Stitched Rectangle and added foam tape (heavily) to the back of the watercolor piece. Then added to a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ Key Lime cardstock piece. My sentiment is from the Kind Flowers stamp set and heat embossed onto black cardstock with white embossing powder.
