Hello friends! Today I am creating with the Old Fashioned Christmas Stocking from Spellbinders. This die set creates the most beautiful focal point for a holiday card, with plenty of little details that make it easy to customize your stocking for different styles and color palettes.

The stocking can also be filled with a variety of festive images, including an ornament, star, poinsettia, and greenery, so you can really have fun arranging all of those pieces and making it your own.

For my stocking, I chose a soft and slightly unexpected Christmas color palette. I die cut the different layers from a mix of Seaside and Waterfall cardstock. I love these shades of blue together, especially when paired with a bright pop of red.

I added the red ribbon detail across the front of the stocking, which really helps break up the softer blues and brings in that traditional Christmas color.

Once the stocking was assembled, I started filling the top with all of those beautiful little holiday elements. I tucked in the poinsettia, sprigs, ornament, and star, layering the pieces until I was happy with the arrangement.

For a little extra shine, I brought in Brushed Gold cardstock for the star and the center of the poinsettia. I think just a few touches of metallic cardstock can make such a difference on a Christmas card without taking away from the rest of the design.

For the sentiment, I used the Holiday Hugs Foil Plate. I foiled the sentiment onto white cardstock using my Glimmer Machine and Champagne Glimmer Foil. The soft metallic finish coordinates beautifully with the Brushed Gold details in the stocking and adds another subtle touch of shine.

I also wanted some texture in the background without adding another competing pattern. I used the Holiday Flurry Embossing Folder from the October 2025 Clubs to create that beautiful snowy texture. It adds just enough interest while still allowing the stocking to remain the star of the card.

I love how all of these elements came together. The Old Fashioned Christmas Stocking makes such a gorgeous focal point, and I can already imagine it in so many different color combinations. You could go completely traditional with reds and greens, keep things soft and elegant with pastels, or even change up the pieces tucked inside the stocking for a different look.
