Hi friends! Today I’m sharing a bright and bold card design that really makes your die cuts pop off the page. I’ll be featuring the Jaunty Sunflower Die from Simon Says Stamp and showing you how to add depth and dimension by inking your die cuts with contrasting colors. This simple but impactful technique transforms flat cardstock into something dynamic and eye-catching.

You can watch the video tutorial down below or HERE on my Youtube channel.
I walk through all the supplies in the video so down below I will list the main supplies used. A full supply list is linked in the video description and a visual supply list is provided at the end of this post.

To bring the Jaunty Sunflower to life, I inked up the petals using a blend of Zest, Grapefruit, and Paprika inks. Starting with Zest at the center, I worked in Grapefruit at the tips and finished with a touch of Paprika for added depth and contrast.

For the background, I used the A2 Masking Stencil to achieve clean, crisp edges that really help the design stand out. I blended the colors Dew, Mist, and Raindrop—cool, refreshing tones that play beautifully against the warm hues of the flower. This color palette creates striking visual interest and helps the focal point truly pop.

To add subtle texture and interest, I stamped a Friendship Text background over the blended panel using white pigment ink. It adds a soft layer of detail without distracting from the overall design. The white ink sits gently on top of the cool background colors, creating a delicate contrast that enhances the depth and visual appeal of the card.
In the video, I also share a quick design tip on what I would have done differently. While I love how the card turned out, I reflect on a small change that could have balanced the design even more. It’s a helpful reminder that experimenting and learning from each project is part of the creative process!
Thanks for stopping by!
