Mixed Media Winged Wonders

Hello friends! Today I’m up on the MFT Youtube channel with an exclusive video showing how I created this mixed media card.

I’m using the Winged Wonders stamp set from My Favorite Things.

I start with creating my background by ink smooshing Salvaged Patina and Blueprint Sketch Distress Oxide inks and Salvaged Patina & Wilted Violet Distress Ink onto White Heavystock Cardstock.

Next, I add a bit of subtle interest by stamping a few butterflies first in Frayed Burlap Archival ink and then Hickory Smoke Archival ink.

I stenciled a background using the Brick stencil and glitter paste. While the paste was still wet, I flicked on some perfect pearls in gold.

The sentiment is from the Winged Wonders stamp set. I heat embossed it in white embossing powder onto black cardstock.

I also stamped out a couple butterflies using Versafine Ink and heat embossing them with clear embossing powder. Then ink blended Salvaged Patina and Wilted Violet Distress Ink over the top using a small blending brush.

After adding my sentiment and butterflies, I added a bunch of clear sequins using liquid glue and an embellishment tool.

Something felt like it was missing so I added white gel pen to small areas of the butterfly.

Mixed media can feel intimidating but I always follow this simple little formula which seems to help me create. I hope it helps you too.

Be sure to check out the VIDEO for more information.

  1. Hi,
This came out really pretty. It’s deceiving when one sees cards like this. Until you know what went into it (three rounds w/ the heat tool + several layers of ink + other media and tools), you can’t really appreciate what makes it look great.
