Happy Independence Day! (if you live in the U.S.A.) My cards today are featuring the Masking Stars and Fireworks Background from Taylored Expressions. While most people probably think of Independence Day with them, I’m showing you another idea!

I don’t know about you but I really don’t make cards for the 4th of July holiday. So just by changing up some colors, I’m making them in celebratory cards. Rainbow colors of course.

My first card features the Masking Stars. If you haven’t seen the amazing Masking stencils from Taylored Expressions be sure to check them out. They make masking so easy! I have a video that I created previously giving an introduction to some of the basic shapes. You can check that video out HERE.

On white cardstock, I applied a rainbow of colors over my Masking Stars using Distress Oxide inks.

I removed my stencil, cleaned off the ink and then reattached it by lining up the ink blended stars.

I then applied Stickles Moon Dust over the stars using a spatula. The stickles leaves a gorgeous sparkly shimmer! It did take quite a while to dry and warped the paper a little but leaves a gorgeous effect.

After the background was completely dry, I trimmed it down to 3 3/4″ x 5″ and attached it to 3 more layers of white cardstock trimmed to the same size. I used cardstock instead of foam tape to help even out the warping and it worked.

I finished off the card by adding the panel to a white A2 size card base and attached a sentiment from the Simple Strips Background stamp. Gorgeous right?!

My next card is the Fireworks Stamp & Stencil combo. I’ve been meaning to play with this but like I said, not really into 4th of July cards but I do love fireworks. By changing up colors you can make this a birthday card, baby theme or really anything you want.

I first started by heat embossing the Fireworks background onto white cardstock with Silver embossing powder.

I took one layer of the fireworks stencil and by masking the adjacent firework, I ink blended the fireworks in light distress oxide colors. I used post it notes for my masking as they are really affordable.

After my first layer was done, I attached the second fireworks stencil, once again masking the adjacent firework so each one is a different color. This time, I ink blended on a darker color of distress oxide ink.

I love the two-tone look of each firework. After trimming the panel down to 3 3/4″ x 5″ and layered with white cardstock for dimension, I added it to a white A2 card base.

I pulled this card together with a sentiment from the Simple Strips Background heat embossed in white onto Black cardstock.

These were so much fun! I can’t believe it took me this long to play with them! Hope you enjoyed today’s inspiration
