Wispy Alcohol Ink – Guest Design Video

Welcome everyone! I have something super amazing to share with you today. You may have already seen it but it deserved it’s own post on my blog.

A while back, I received an unexpected message from the one & only Jennifer McGuire asking to do a guest video on her Youtube channel. You know in the tv shows where the high school girls jump up and down and are screaming in excitement? You can go ahead and image that as me.

You can check out the video over on Jennifer’s Youtube channel. All the supplies are listed there and on her blog.

At the time, I had a technique that I wanted to put into a video and thought it would work perfectly for the guest video because Jennifer is well known for providing new techniques. It was Jennifer’s videos that actually first introduced me to alcohol inks so it was so fitting.

I love working with alcohol ink and wanted to create the wispy backgrounds like I had been seeing artists do on large works of art. The magic tool that I saw them using was a blow dryer! Who knew?! It can be a little tricky using this with a smaller piece of Yupo paper but it is doable and so much fun!

The blow dryer I used in the video is one that I had for years. I have no clue where I got it and it has since died on me so unfortunately, I do know the brand. It had 3 settings on it: low, medium and high for speed.

One of the key points of using the blow dryer was not only to move the ink around but the heat from it set the ink on the paper without melting or warping the Yupo paper. You want to get in close with blow dryer and push the ink from the sides. You don’t want to blow it around from right over top because you won’t have any control.

I want to say a big Thank You to Jennifer for inviting me to guest on her channel. Huge honor! It’s pretty surreal to see my name on her channel.

I also want to say welcome to all my new subscribers and followers. Not going to lie, it was emotional for me to see all the love in the comments. You are all just the sweetest!

Thanks again! Hope you enjoy the video and all the future inspiration that I will be sharing.

  2. What a nice technique. I like the way the inks look. Like silk fabric that has moved and stopped and started again.
