CARD DETAILS

There are many different mediums I could have chosen to color up this amazing stamp set. In the end, I decided to keep it simple. I will be using the same technique on both cards.

For the first card shown, I stamped the image onto Cherry Red card stock with Embossing Ink. I used a Misti corner to help line up the card stock so that the card stock wasn’t flush with the edge of the Misti. Since this is a larger stamp set, I needed a little room. It also allowed me center my image.

Then, I heat embossed with Silver Embossing Powder. Be sure your heat tool is nice and hot so you don’t overheat your embossing powder.

Next, I’m channeling my inner Yana Smakula. I used a white Polychromos pencil to color in just the petals of the image. I started out light handed for the first layer. Normally when you color with colored pencils you want something with a little more tooth for the pencil to grab onto. Starting with a light hand will help you layer your colors. In my case, I’m only using white. After I colored in the flower petals, I went over it again but this time using a medium pressure. I did this on both cards.

I ink blended the sides of the Cherry Red card stock with Cherry Red Ink and Chocolate Truffle Ink using a Picket Fence Studios Life Changing Blender Brush. Note I’m only ink blending the edges, leaving the center clean.

I’m going to skip over the sentiment for just a sec and take you to my next card.

For this card, I started with Slate card stock and repeated the same process as above. The only change is I used Gold Embossing Powder on the Slate card stock.

After coloring in the petals with a White Polychromos pencil, I ink blended the sides of the card stock with Slate Ink. If you wanted to really intensify it, you could add Black Onyx to the edges.

Since we ink blended the edges we need to make sure the card stock is good and dry. I used a heat tool to speed up the process. You can test if the card stock is dry by lightly sprinkling on some embossing powder. If it sticks, your card stock is still too wet.

Using my Misti tool, I stamp the sentiments onto the card front with Embossing Ink and heat embossing with Gold/Silver Embossing Powder.

The reason I waited to add the sentiment is I used some pretty strong colors to ink blend the edges. By waiting until the end to heat emboss, I am getting a true Gold/Silver shine.

I wanted to add a little sparkle to the cards. On the Cherry Red card, I added an Aqua Shimmer Pen in Glitter Gloss over the colored pencil area. It’s really hard to tell on camera and in pictures but it adds a slight glitter detail to the area. For the Slate card, I added an Aqua Shimmer Pen in Midas Touch which is bits of gold glitter.

That finishes up my inspiration for today. I hope you enjoyed it. Don’t forget to check out the video HERE for more details.
